So this is kinda strange, writing a page about myself....
Having been raised on a diet of Genesis, Clapton and Steely Dan from an early age I first picked up a guitar at the age of 10 and spent most of my teenage years with a guitar around my neck; learning everything from ABBA to Zappa, teaching some friends while I was at school and starting to gig in bands from the tender age of 15.
A weekend job in a local guitar shop while I was at school sparked an interest in the technical and business side of things and I began taking them apart and sometimes managing to put them back together again as well. One thing led to another and after university I spent 12 years managing a big guitar shop, before starting my own tuition business in 2008.
Since then I have taught hundreds of students, having worked in several secondary schools across Devon & Cornwall.
I currently teach at Devonport High School in Plymouth as well as lecturing on the Music Diploma courses at City College in Plymouth where I help students with writing, recording, performing and promoting their music.
You can find out about the courses here.
I have been fortunate to gain a wide range of experience over my years of playing; I have tried to chuck myself in at the deep end of everything that has come my way; from bands, studios & festivals to product demonstrations, school tuition, college lecturing and youth music.
Professionally I have played in many bands over the years, usually rock and blues, but I have also performed in some theatre shows and enjoyed a stint with the Mama Stone's House Band. I played with the popular local function band Joey the Lips for 10 years, both as a guitarist and a bassist and left in 2015 to pursue my own ventures.
These days I mainly play guitar in the Riviera Dogs, which is essentially an excuse to have fun and play all of the songs I wanted to play when I was 16. With a set full of 80s and 90s rock and pop it is great fun to play the music I grew up with, and have a bit of a laugh. Please come and see us if you fancy a good night out;
you can check out our website here.
I have been fortunate enough to get a fair bit of work as a session musician over the years, playing guitar and bass for bands such as Bill Ding & the Skyscrapers, Rhythm Machine, I Love Amp, Alex Hart, K-Lanta and The Filthy Gourgeous.
I have a pretty high functioning home studio and and enjoy writing and recording music for myself, as well as private and corporate clients.
If you're curious there's a bunch of clips on my Soundcloud page here.
I am very much available for session work, collaborating in person or online.
In 2017 I fulfilled the life long dream of releasing an album of my own music;
I'm currently working on the follow up.........
